'Come' was the last album Prince released under his birth name after changing his name to the unpronounceable "Love Symbol". The album mostly contains songs from the stage-show "Glam Slam Ulysses", and went through many configuration changes before it was released. The album is a crossover project with 'The Gold Experience', and was meant to represent the start of a new era by distinguishing the "old" music by Prince from the "new" music by The Artist. Both projects have been recorded around the same time and were at one point even considered to be merged to a triple album titled 'The Dawn', which also featured material that was eventually released on 'Chaos And Disorder' in 1996. 'Come' originally featured tracks that were eventually moved to 'The Gold Experience', including "Endorphinmachine", "Dolphin", and "Interactive" (which has been removed from the tracklist at one point). "Space" is the only track that remained on 'Come' which has a connection to 'The Gold Experience', and was included on the first known configuration of that album which is believed to have been titled 'The Gold Album'. When 'Come' was released, it received generally negative reviews by critics and did not sell well, though being considered a "underrated gem" by a large part of the fan base later on. The album was only received largely positive by critics in the Netherlands, which praised the album for being a testament to Prince's funkiness. Parts of the album were regularly performed live from 1993 to 1995 alongside songs from 'The Gold Experience'.
This alternate version of 'Come' aims to "complete" the album with tracks that were at some point included but then eventually removed from the tracklist, and tracks that are connected to the rest of the album by having been included in the Glam Slam Ulysses stage-show. "Ripopgodazippa" appears on the album to further the idea of interchanging songs between 'The Gold Experience' and 'Come', imagining a realistic change of creative direction that causes the track to switch albums and be eventually released as part of a cohesive album. The last portion of "Poem" which was released on the original album as "Orgasm" was removed in favor of including "Ripopgodazippa", which fits contextually, musically, and thematically, blending in perfectly with "Come", "Space", and "Pheromone". Some tracks have been edited to give this reimagined version a proper progression and it's own flow, with the overall sequence taking inspiration from previous configurations of the album.
Reworking this album was a extensive and complex process that was handled with a lot of care, attention to detail, and most importantly, the highest of respect to Prince, his artistry, and the integrity of his legacy.
Purple Legacy Music does not claim to "fix" or "improve" Prince's works. The idea of this fan project is to explore his legacy through an alternative approach to his creative output that discovers different scenarios of the so popular "what if's" of his career.
