Description
Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon interview Rabbi Jonathan, spiritual leader of Congregation Ahavath Torah in Stoughton, Massachusetts, a stalwart in the international free speech movement. We discuss kashrut traditions both Ashkenazic and Sephardi and the scriptural, Kabbalistic contexts of Tikkun Olam versus social justice interpretations by liberal Jewish denominations in the US. Tikkun Olan in the Kabbalistic traditions meant the obligation of Jews to observe Ha Shem’s mitzvot in daily practice of their faith. That led to discussion of why 9 US liberal American denominations and leftist peace groups have challenged Israeli sovereignty declarations of recently elected Israeli PM Netanyahu in a letter to President Trump. In the context of the Passover Haggadah reading, it meant that a supposed majority of American Jews did not understand that PM Netanyahu was asserting Israeli sovereign law to be applied to the Jewish communities in Area C, instead of military rules. Which led to a discussion of the contrast between young Jewish Millennials in the US versus Israel reflecting in polling by the Israel Democracy (IDI) Institute in the April 9th, election. The overwhelming majority of Israeli Millennials age 18-24 and young adults 25 to 34 in the April 9th election, cited by Rabbi Hausman from post-election survey data from the IDI, voted in favor of the so-called right wing. Rabbi Hausman said that reflected the experience of failure of the 1993 Oslo Accords to bring about peace between Palestinian Arabs and Jews, reflected in the 2000 Temple Intifada, the 2005 forced evacuation of 8,000 Jews from Gush Katif settlements in Gaza, the three IDF Operations in 2008-09, 2012 and 2014. It is visibly on display weekly since March 2018 in the violent protests, launching from Gaza by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad of explosive balloons, fiery kites and rockets. It is compounded Hausman said by the weekly incitement by Palestinian Imams of hatred and random acts of violence by Palestinian Arabs against Jews in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. It is motivated, in part, by compensation of terrorists and their families by the PLO-Fatah in the so-called “pay for slay”. Thus, against this background Israeli millennials overwhelmingly voted for a government to provide security to combat this Islamic doctrinal hatred. Meanwhile, misguided American Jewish liberal denominations persist in convey the false hopes of peace prospects as an act of Tikkun Olam social justice creating the divide between young Jews in America versus those in Israel.
